The topic of energy is relevant today all over the world. By the XXI century, humanity has made significant progress in this complex and necessary area. Modern society is so accustomed to the benefits of civilization and continuous development that today, it is hard to imagine our life without energy, which surrounds us everywhere - in factories, offices, homes, and on the street. The power engineering profession is now considered prestigious and is gaining more and more popularity. Specialized faculties are opened at institutes, lectures of famous experts in the field of fuel and energy are held, and exhibitions, seminars, and conferences are organized. One of the constant participants of the profile events is Andrey Khodykin, Honorary Power Engineer and top manager of the energy field.
Some people enter the profession after being assigned to an institute, and some choose it since childhood. Andrey Khodykin, an energy expert, has over twenty years of experience in the energy industry, one of the most dangerous and complex fields. The desire for knowledge, persistence, the passion for development and innovation helped Andrey, from a simple engineer, to become the leading power engineer in the country. What qualities are necessary for such a profession? First, it is a mathematical and technical mind, attention to detail, and the ability to make crucial decisions and take responsibility. Indeed, a good specialist must have a high level of expertise, know the technical characteristics, features, and rules of power equipment operation, and have experience in the development, implementation, and expertise of energy-saving and energy-efficiency projects. Such professionals build the history of our country by working on unique projects, such as developing a high-temperature superconducting DC cable line (HTSCL). It was Andrey Khodykin, an expert who was part of the development team for this project and was delegated to America to study local projects. Today, HTSP cable lines of several kilometers in length are being developed in Russia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, EU countries, and the USA. In America, one of the most potent HTSP cable lines, 600m/138 (57 MVA), and a significant project in the practical application of superconductivity - Hydra 300m/13.8kV/k4 by AMSC and Con Edison. The study of these projects and other world examples, as well as ROSSETI's developments, allowed FGC UES to make the basis for the design documentation for the cable line under construction in St. Petersburg, which currently has no analogs on the market. Sustainable energy production manager Andrey Khodykin was a member of the expert council for designing and constructing this WTSP CP, a powerful, innovative project for the entire world. The most important task for the energy industry is to develop efficient high-power transmission systems with minimized losses. It is possible to achieve this result with the help of super capacity. It is in the power transmission line that HTSP wires are widely used. Such cable is entirely environmentally friendly and can be used in a high fire hazard; the introduction of HTSP minimizes losses and helps reduce the cost of line construction. The application of high-temperature superconductors has become a huge step in development in many industries. Building ring circuits, power bridges, and nuclear power plants are impossible without HTSP. And VTSP CLs play a unique role in large metropolitan areas. The project in St. Petersburg has been developed for five years. The successful introduction of HTSP CLs in the northern capital of our country gives grounds to create HTSP lines to transmit up to 200-300 MW, occupying an area smaller than the existing power transmission lines. Energy loss during the transportation is minimized. According to Khodykin Andrey, soon, a significant reduction in the cost of HTSP is expected, which will make it possible to introduce these cable lines in large cities in Russia and abroad.
