WASP prepares for the premiere of a “flying” 3D printer |

New models of 3D printers appear on the market faster than mushrooms after rain. In order to attract customers, you have to create installations that stand out from the crowd. One of these devices can be considered the latest DeltaWASP 20-40 Turbo, claiming the title of the fastest FDM printer. If you have never heard of WASP, this is an Italian company founded by inventor Massimo Moretti. Over the past twenty years, he has worked on a wide range of innovative projects and has become one of the first Italian entrepreneurs to recognize the potential of 3D printing. Among his works are many projects, ranging from RepRap printers and ending with experiments on printing houses. Together with a group of design students, Massimo launched the WASP company several years ago, which has become the most famous Italian manufacturer of 3D printers and offers machines of all kinds of configurations. Last October, WASP showed off a four-meter-high printer, and is now about to introduce the DeltaWASP 20 40 Turbo version based on the successful DeltaWASP delta robot to the general public. Although the previous version cannot be called slow, the printhead of the new device will “fly” with a speed crazy by today's standards - up to 1,000 mm / sec. According to WASP, the company decided to experiment with more powerful processors than conventional 3D printers while working on a four-meter model. “During the design and construction of the BigDelta printer, we faced a huge problem that we had not encountered before: the Arduino Mega controller could not cope with the data flow necessary to control the motors,” WASP representatives explain. As a result, the developers decided to try the board with a 32-bit RISC processor, capable of performing up to 82 million operations per second. The integration of the new hardware into the modified DeltaWASP made it possible to achieve high speeds, and the accuracy did not suffer in comparison with its predecessor. “We tried to solve some problems with Big Delta, and in the process we found solutions suitable for the more compact of our models,” they say in WASP. As the video demonstrates, print speeds reach an unprecedented 1,000 mm / s. According to the developers, the acceleration during positioning reaches all 20,000 mm / s².
