I have often observed a lot of golfers with their golf clubs which looked quite brand new. But to my surprise, whenever I asked them about how old their club sets were, I got an answer that these were not less than 3 to 4 years old. This was very surprising for me as the clubs looked so intact and hardly had any scratches and these were shining like new clubs. In fact, you could hardly make out that these were actually used. It was not even the case, where the player played rarely and so these clubs looked so new. Instead, these golfers are very active and they play at least twice a month. Very often they even go to the driving ranges. So, if you really want your clubs to look new and shine then you need to take care of your golf club sets and maintain them properly. Whenever you play on the golf course, with almost every shot stroked by the club, a lot of dirt sticks to it. This makes it very complicated and tedious to clean them and restore their shine. Ideally, your clubs need to be cleaned after each round on the course as well as, off the course. Thus, you need to learn about how to keep your golf clubs polished. To polish your golf club set must be part of the maintenance routine since it is very helpful in keeping the club face clean and ensuring the golfer that no shot is affected from any dirt which could have remained on the face of the club. If you have to play for the next few days continuously, then it is absolutely fine to store your golf club set in the garage for few days. But ensure that your golf bag is dry from inside before you place the clubs in the bag. Not even for a single day, it should be damp or have moisture since high humidity can be responsible for rust. Do not store them in the garage, if you find moisture inside it. Take them and store inside your home. If you are not planning to play for the next few days, then clean the golf clubs well, wipe the shafts and store them. There can be another scenario, where you want to store the club set for a quite long time. It can be due to climatic conditions like winter or it can be due to some illness which demands physical rest or may be due to some other obligations. In such situation, you can store them inside your home, in somewhere interior which is dry. Again before storing them for a long time, you must clean the club heads, grips and shafts. Place them after they are dried completely. If you have a rain cover, then place it on the bag. Keep them in a corner of a closet or any other place which is out of the way.
To clean the golf grip, you can use a moist cloth to wipe down the grip and then you can use another cloth to make it dry. Remember, the second cloth which you will use must be dry. Mild liquid cleaners like Windex can also be used to spray in the grip and then should be wiped off. But avoid detergents for cleaning genuine type of leather grips. You can easily avail a golf club cleaning kit from a market or from an online retailer. These kits come with an instruction manual too for how to clean your golf grips. Varieties of cleaners are available in the market, which are made specifically for cleaning of grips. And these are very useful and made by many reputed manufacturers. You can easily do the cleaning ritual at home even with your dishwashing detergent. In a sink, put the stopper and fill it with water. Add few drops of the dishwashing detergent into it and mix it well. Take a cloth and use this liquid to rub it well on your golf grip. Make sure all dirt, oil from hands, sweat etc. is removed and cleaned properly. Rinse it well with clean water once dirt is removed. Once it is rinsed well, take a dry and clean cloth and wipe it well so that no water drop is left and it is absolutely dry. But, like I already mentioned, in case if you use a leather grip, then do not use any kind of detergent to clean it. To maintain a leather grip, you can simply use warm water and a towel. You just need to moisten the towel with the warm water and wipe down the leather grip with it. Lastly, with a dry cloth remove any moist left on the grip. To clean a Callaway golf club, you need to make a solution of around three cups of lukewarm water and one teaspoon of the liquid soap in a metal pot. With the help of a spoon, mix it well and put the heads of these clubs in it. The heads must be inside the water solution. Let them lean or hold them straight for some time. Then, with the help of a toothpick or may be a wooden golf tee, take out any debris which is stuck in tight spaces. You can also scrub with a soft bristled toothbrush. Lastly, rinse the heads with water and wipe them with a clean and dry cloth.
