Nicknamed “The Golden State” for 1848’s discovery of gold and for the fields of golden poppies the come around each spring, the state of California is rich in history and a prime example of growth and progress amongst the 50 states. According to its Wikipedia page, California has 39.5 million residents, making it “the most populous state in the United States.” California also contains the city of Los Angeles, the United State’s second largest city and California’s most populous. Outside of the state’s sheer size and population, it also boasts a $2.717 trillion economy, which is larger than any other state’s. As mentioned earlier, the year of 1848 was a big year for the state. On February 2, 1848 the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed, bringing an end to the Mexican-American War. Soon after, the territory known as Alta California became the American state of California. Not as populated at the time, California then saw an influx in its population once gold was discovered and prospectors and miners arrived by the thousands. Known as the California Gold Rush, it helped shape California’s demographics and finances. This lent in a hand in California successfully becoming an undivided free state in the United States on September 9, 1850. Since then, California has always been a state of progress and change. It is one of the more diverse states in the United States and is even considered a trendsetter in popular culture, innovation and politics on a global level. Its appeal reaches many around the globe, attracting those interested in everything under the sun from sports to technology to politics to business. The San Francisco Bay Area of California is “home to four of the world’s ten largest companies by market capitalization and four of the world’s ten richest people.” With a strong track record like that, it is easy to see why many people choose to head to California in search of success. And while the state has an endless list of appeal, one of California’s greatest attractions is its nightlife. With many celebrities scattered throughout the state and the entertainment industry a staple of its economy, a night out on the town is something everyone is excited to take part in. There are nightclubs filled with speakers and large dance floors and hot spots known for their rich history in music. The nightlife in California offers everything for the 18-21 crowd and especially for the 21 and over crowd. In 2018, there are plenty of venues that are worthy of an exciting and fun night out. One such venue is called The Whisky A Go Go and is locate on the Sunset Strip. According to a CBS Los Angeles article, The Whisky A Go Go “has been an iconic fixture in rock and roll history since 1964.” Famed groups like The Doors, Led Zeppelin, The Runaways, and Nirvana have played on its stage and new, upcoming rock groups still get up on stage and rock the night away. Also located in Los Angeles, The Troubador is another popular venue for all ages that boasts a history rich in talented music artists. Elton John made his American performance debut here and popular artists like Bruce Springsteen, Carol King, Tom Petty, and Bob Dylan have all played The Troubador. Into heavier metal and hard rock and roll? Motley Crue and Guns ’N’ Roses have also graced the popular venue. The Troubador is a great spot to hear some amazing tunes and embark on a nostalgic night of what is now known as classic rock. But of course, a scene heavy in rock is not all that California nightlife offers. Avalon Hollywood is a venue known for its “Thursday nights at Tiger Heat, where revelers get to dance the night away.” It features many different DJ’s who spin a varying assortment of music from hip-hop to trance to old-school to house. Another popular place to frequent is known as Das Bunker. Also located in Los Angeles, it offers three bars, three floors, three dance floors and house DJs spinning all sorts of music. Known for its sheer volume, those who venture into Das Bunker can hear and dance to everything from power noise to soul and R&B to dance to industrial. Now, while Los Angeles is home to many of the state’s best nightclubs, it is not the only city that offers a great nightlife scene. In San Diego, a new venue called F6ix is bringing a “new beat to San Diego’s downtown nightlife scene,” reads anarticle fromclubzone.com. F6ix sits below street level and features a dance floor with a DJ booth and stage where local talent spins a blend of hip-hop hits from past and present. Jump on over to San Francisco and you can find The Cellar, another popular nightclub that has built a notable reputation. Dubbed “one of the best dance havens and nightclubs in San Francisco,” The Cellar is also a great venue for private parties and features a varied selection of bottled and drawn beers and cocktails and even a pool table for those looking for a more relaxed night out. It is safe to say that there are plenty of options for night owls in The Golden State. But before spending the night out on the town it is also important to note that the state of California is no stranger to violent crime — even in nightclubs with security and cameras. When spending a night out on the town make sure to stick with your group or friend and check in with each other throughout the night. It can be dangerous leaving at night but if you stick with the “buddy system” then there is no reason why every night cannot be filled with adventure and fun. Make the most your time in California, whether you are moving there for an extended period of time, enjoying vacation time, or visiting a friend for a long weekend. Nightlife is ever-changing and always has something fun for every type of person. So turn off the morning alarm, sleep in, and rest up for a fun night.
