Engineering is quite a wide subject area that covers different aspect and industries. Engineers offer solutions to real world problems. From Mathematics to Science and technology, the subject can be categorized into sub subjects. As a result emerges the different engineering degrees. In the previous times, engineering would solely be classified into just four major branches: Chemical, Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering. In today's age, it has evolved and there are now six major branches of the subject. The two additional ones are; Management and Geotechnical. All degrees are available on offer at different colleges and universities from Bachelor's, Master’s and Doctorate levels. 1. Mechanical Engineering DegreeThis degree involves designing different mechanical systems. Once the systems are created, they are of aid to different industries such as the manufacturing industry, nuclear production among others. It is considered one of the broadest engineering degrees worldwide that hosts a wide range of the engineering degrees. It also has a number of subsets that mix with electronics to form mechatronics. 2. Aerospace Engineering DegreeThis type of degree deals with all things air and space travel. The likes of military and aircraft design coupled with the design of commercial and satellite technology. Although people often interchange aerospace and aeronautical engineering to mean the same thing, they are actually very different. Whereas aeronautical engineering is concerned with craft that stay in the aircraft, aerospace deals with those aircrafts that venture outside the atmosphere. 3. Biomedical Engineering DegreeThis is a combination of both biology and medicine. Engineers in this field assist with their skills with the advancements in the medical and healthcare industry. They help with developing the available technology and maintain the diagnosis devices and systems. The machines therefore used to diagnose diseases from MRIs and other devices. The industry is moving at a rapid speed especially with the coming up with advancements that help in detection of medical problems. 4. Civil Engineering DegreeThe development of infrastructure such as railways, buildings, roads and other construction projects are all housed under this degree. Civil engineers play a major role in the occurrence of a natural disaster. The degree is however broad and could be categorized into structural, environmental and even marine engineering. All fall under civil engineering. 5. Computer Engineering DegreeThis is yet another industry in the engineering sector that is continually growing. The sector involves the combination of computer science and electrical engineering. It is one of the industries that have the most potential as every sector relies on information technology. Some of the specialization areas in this industry include telecommunications, application development and cyber security among others. 6. Microelectronic Engineering DegreeAny interest in electronics could lead to a specialization in this degree. Microelectronics is a sub subject of Electrical engineering. The focus however is small. Microelectronic engineers concentrate on the design and development of small electronic devices. These engineers develop small devices that are more convenient. Their demand is therefore high as they also perform conformity tests in products. 7. Environmental Engineering DegreeOne of the most popular degrees in the engineering sector. The study of science and engineering is combined for the betterment and improvement of the environment. This includes food, air and water that are consumed by humans. They also study the impact of the environment on humans including pollution. This is also a subset of civil engineering.
